Residual Stresses Control in Additive Manufacturing

نویسندگان

چکیده

Residual stresses are one of the primary causes for failure parts or systems in metal additive manufacturing (AM), since they easily induce crack propagation and structural distortion. Although formation residual has been extensively studied, core factors steering their development AM have not completely uncovered. To date, several strategies based on reducing thermal gradients developed to mitigate manifestation AM; however, how choose optimal processing plan is still unclear designers. In this regard, concept yield temperature, related deformation mechanical constraint, plays a crucial role controlling stresses, but it duly investigated, corresponding approach control also yet lacking. undertake such study, three-bar model firstly used illustrate mechanism stress its key causes. Next, an experimentally calibrated thermomechanical finite element analyze sensitivity scan pattern, preheating, energy density, part geometry size, as well substrate constraints. Based numerical results obtained from analysis, recommendations minimize during process provided.

Thermal Stresses Associated with Part Overhang Geometry in Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing: Process Parameter Effects

For powder-bed electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM), support structures are required when fabricating an overhang to prevent defects such as curling, which is due to the complex thermomechanical process in EBAM. In this study, finite element modeling is developed to simulate the thermomechanical process in EBAM in building overhang part. Thermomechanical characteristics such as thermal g...

Residual Stresses Measurement in Hollow Samples Using Contour Method

Residual stresses are created usually undesirably during manufacturing processes, including casting, welding, metal forming, etc. Residual stresses alone or in combination with other factors can cause the destruction and fracture of components or significant decline in their service life. Therefore, it is crucial to measure the residual stresses. Contour method is a destructive testing method c...

Residual Stresses in Case Hardened Materials

Fatigue behavior of case hardened parts depend to a great extent on the type of residual stresses developed in the components. Topography and metallurgical effects were the two elements which contribute much to surface integrity. Micro hardness of the gas carburized (EN 33 and EN 36) and Induction hardened (AISI 1040 and AISI 6150) specimens obtained during experiments, showed that there was gr...
